Integrate Google Analytics With WordPress

Nowadays, the most successful websites monitor their users' behaviour. That means you'll need to keep track of things like how many visitors depart immediately away, how long people spend on average reading your pages, and so on. You're flying blind if you don't have these facts.Analytics allow you to monitor what users do on your site and how much traffic it receives. Depending on the technology, you can even keep track of sophisticated events like conversions. More significantly, you may utilise this information to guide and foster the growth of your website. In this piece, we'll discuss one of our favourite tools, Google Analytics. We'll explain how it works and what features it has, and then show you how to connect it with WordPress. Let's get started!

Gauravgo imageIf you want to get technical, analytics is the process of interpreting data to discover patterns. When it comes to websites, analytics entails gathering information about traffic to your site and how visitors interact with it.

It’s simple to keep track of how many people visit your website. That figure, however, doesn’t tell you much. On the other hand, if you have access to detailed information, you can determine whether your website is on the correct track. This might contain information like as which sites visitors spend the most time on, how many individuals convert, and so on.

Google Analytics gives you access to all of that data and more. It would not be an exaggeration to state that you could use the service for weeks and still learn new things about your website. Even more, integrating the service with any form of website is simple.

We’d even suggest that running a website without an analytics tool is like to driving without a GPS. You don’t need one, but having it on hand will make your job lot simpler. Google Analytics is not the only choice, but it is one of the finest, particularly for beginners.

  • Analyse complicated events like your bounce rate and time spent on your website.
  • Set highly sophisticated ‘goals’ that allow you to track practically any type of conversion.
  • Learn what terms visitors are searching for on your website.
  • Connect several websites to a single Google Analytics account.

Google Analytics is available in both free and paid editions. In most situations, the free edition provides more than enough capabilities for both small and large websites.

If you’re still unsure if an analytics tool will help you, we recommend giving Google Analytics a try for at least a week or two. You’ll probably become addicted to analytics and their rewards far before that time is over.

Gauravgo imageThere are several methods for integrating Google Analytics with your WordPress website. You may, for example, add tracking code to your site, use a theme that enables integration out of the box (such as Total), or simply install a plugin.

Integrating Google Analytics through your theme isn’t always a good option. After all, you may choose to change themes at some point. Manually adding the required code snippet is a possibility, but plugins are far more convenient. Furthermore, some provide extra functionality, such as showing analytics data directly on your WordPress dashboard.

With that in mind, let’s look at how to use a free plugin to integrate Google Analytics with your WordPress site.

Gauravgo imageIt’s easy to get started with Google Analytics. The first thing you’ll need is a Google account, which you may create on your own. Then, navigate to the Google Analytics site and select Create Account.
To be clear, you can continue to utilise your existing Google account. You’re just creating a Google Analytics account. When you’re finished, go ahead and create a new property.

Then, press the Install Now button. WordPress will install the plugin and then allow you to activate it. Keep in mind that in our example, we’re utilising the free version of MonsterInsights. There is also a premium option that includes additional features like e-commerce and conversion tracking. However, you should try out the ‘lite’ version before committing to a membership.

Gauravgo imageLet’s link MonsterInsights to your Google Analytics account right now. To begin, return to your dashboard and select the new MonsterInsights tab from the menu. You’ll notice a notification requesting you to confirm your Google Analytics account right away.

Click the Authenticate with your Google Account button on the next screen.

To finish integrating your Google Analytics account, you’ll need to follow a few easy steps. To begin, click the Click To Get Google Code button.

You must now authorise the plugin to connect to the service in order to obtain the required code. All you have to do is copy it and paste it where the plugin instructs. On the following screen, you may select the property to which you wish to attach your website. Once you’ve hit Next one more time, you’re ready to leave. Using the MonsterInsights > Dashboard page, you can now view your metrics without leaving WordPress.

Gauravgo imageUsing analytics to track the success of your website is one of the most effective ways to determine if you’re on the correct road. If your traffic increases month after month, for example, you know your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is effective. If, on the other hand, you’re not receiving the desired results, it may be time to reconsider your strategy or redesign your website.

There are other programmes for tracking analytics, but Google Analytics is our top selection because it is both free and quite comprehensive. Here’s how to link it to WordPress:

  • Create an account with Google Analytics.
  • Download and install the MonsterInsights plugin.
  • Allow the plugin to access your Google Analytics account.
